Abstract

This study investigated the atmospheric corrosion of bronze under tropical climate conditions, focusing on the evaluation of anticorrosive coatings applied to bronze sheets. The experiment simulated an environment with high humidity and corrosive agents using a salt spray chamber to expose the sheets to these conditions. Sheets coated with different types of varnishes were analyzed for mass variation and surface integrity over 14 days of exposure. The results showed that the acrylic resin-based coating was the most effective in protecting against corrosion, while other varnishes tested showed lower efficiency, with coating failures that allowed moisture penetration and accelerated the corrosion process. The uncoated sheet suffered a more intense corrosion process, highlighting the importance of protective barriers in tropical climates. This study contributes to understanding the preservation of bronze and provides insights for developing more effective anticorrosive coatings for the conservation of material heritage in tropical regions.
